Installation on a Blank System

Note |
---|
If you are already familar with the OS/2 Warp 4 installation procedure, you may wish to skip this chapter. If you decide to do so, install OS/2 Warp 4 with all the system components that you think that are useful for a server. You should remember that the fewer features you install, the better your system will run, due to reduced resource requirements and increased stability. When you select the networking components of Warp 4, do not install the File & Print Client. We will use the File and Print Client from Warp Server instead. If you plan to use TCP/IP and/or TCPBEUI on your system, you should select and install TCP/IP Version 4 from OS/2 Warp 4. This will provide improved performance and useful functional enhancements compared to TCP/IP 3.1 from OS/2 Warp Server. |
We will install the OS/2 Warp 4 base operating system, with its TCP/IP and MPTS part by following the proceeding steps.
We separated the installation procedure of the base operating system in two parts. Section 3.1 Installation Phase I - VIO Installation describes the text mode installation part up to the first reboot. This includes the creation and definition of the boot partition and the selection of the file system you want to use.
Section 3.2 Installation Phase II - GUI
Installation describes the configuration and
installation process after the first reboot. This includes the selection of
system components and networking features from OS/2 Warp 4 to be installed.
